ELEMENTARY SCHOOLERS

(AGES 6-9)

The Slide

In this program, players will take the plunge into the world of improv through a variety of theater games and exercises. They will learn to work with their peers as a team, exploring what it means to support each other as both actor and audience. Players will create original characters and environments that they will use in funny, creative play.

Beginners welcome.

Time: Thursdays, 3:00-4:00 PM EDT

Class Description: 7-9 year olds will have a blast with this intro to improv. Through a variety of theater games, players will learn how to perform together without a plan. They will share stories, embody original characters, and define new worlds all while figuring out what it means to be an awesome member of a team.

MIDDLE SCHOOLERS

(AGES 10-12)

The Seesaw

In this program, pre-teens will learn to balance strong improv skills with their unique comedic voices. Players will learn to perform short-form improv games by exploring the tenets of strong scene work that has a clearly defined who, what, and where. Deep focus on acceptance, listening, awareness, and grounding will allow players to engage with each other as a team.

(10-Week Session)

Time: Saturdays, 1:00-2:00 PM EDT

Dates: September 26th-November 28th, 2020

Location: Online (Zoom)

Class Description: 10-12 year olds will have fun in this class that strengthens core improv skills and comedic sensibilites. Players will learn to make bold choices in collaboration with their peers as they master a variety of short-form improv games.

The Jungle Gym

In this program, teenagers will develop a deep understanding of improv principles to tackle long-form structures. A rigorous focus on scene work, collaboration, and ownership of each player’s comedic voice is used to prepare players for performance.

Class Description: Teenagers will enjoy this challenging class that takes a deep dive into the inner workings of improvised performance. By teaming up to create exciting, grounded, and funny scenes, players will develop a strong foundation in the skills that will allow them to tackle long-form structures.

Prerequisite: The Jungle Gym: Core

Time: Sundays, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM EDT

Dates: September 27th-November 29th, 2020

Location: Online (Zoom)

Teacher: Aaron F. Brateman

Class Description: Teenagers will continue their exploration of longform improv in this class that focuses on two-person scene work. Drawing heavily from their own lived experiences, players will learn to create scenes that are grounded in truth. From there, players will then learn how to let loose in the worlds they have created.
